Rare First Edition First State of Mark Twain's "Life On The Mississippi". Bound in the rare Publisher?s burgundy morocco leather with lettered compartments in five raised bands, all edges marbled with marbled end leaves. It contains rare misprints such as the flaming head illustration on page 441 that Twains Wife had the publisher remove after first printing because she felt as though it was too morbid an image. Also in misprint is an illustration on page 443 of the "St.Louis Hotel" which is incorrect and was supposed to read as the "St.Charles Hotel" The book was appraised at a fair market value of $6500.00 and similar copies have sold in the past for $12,000.00.
